WREXHAM Council has joined forces with a housing association on an £880,000 project to build seven new bungalows in Caia Park.

The properties are being built in Coed Aben and Glan Gors by the council in partnership with Clwyd Alyn Housing Association, part of the Pennaf Housing Group.

More than half a million pounds towards the cost of scheme has been provided by a social housing grant from the Welsh Assembly Government and the remainder is funded by private finance arranged by the housing group.

The bungalows, which are being built by developer Lovell, will be available both to rent and buy under low-cost affordable housing schemes.

The homes include six two-bedroom and one three-bedroom bungalows.
A local lettings policy will give first priority to people living in Caia Park who need ground-floor accommodation.

Graham Worthington, chief executive of the Pennaf Housing Group, said: “We are delighted to be working in partnership with the local authority.”

Nigel Yates, Lovell’s regional director for North Wales, said: “These new homes will help to address the urgent need for high-quality affordable housing in North
Wales.

Cllr Carrie Harper, member for Queensway, said: “We have a duty to provide good quality affordable homes and I am delighted that the people of Caia Park will be
given priority.”

Cllr Mark Pritchard, Wrexham Council’s lead member for housing and planning, said: “This is another great example of how organisations can work together.

“I would like to Clwyd Alyn Housing Association and the Welsh Assembly Government.

“This is one of a number of schemes that are currently being developed in the county borough as we aim to meet our targets by 2021.”

Anyone interested in registering for the new properties, due to be completed later this year, should contact Wrexham Council’s housing office at Caia Park on 01978

At a cost of around £125,700 each, to build I wonder if the people most in need of this kind of property will be able to afford to buy.... surely renting is the most sensible way to go keeping them as Council stock for the long term.... it's good to see Caia and it's people getting a chance to live in decent housing and it could be the way forward for an estate that has been allowed to degenerate under previous Councils

Is this a joke? £880k to build 7 "low cost" homes..? £500k from the WAG?! I think someone's having their pants pulled down here..

Why can't the council buy houces on the private market inn Wrexham insted of spending money on deflating the houcing prices in Wrexham. I don't think it is thath crazy to think thath the council could buy houces on the open Market for under 100.000 each. And then the council homes/affordebal houcing would be spread out all over Wrexham to remove the stigma of living in council homes.
