A MUCH-loved Cheshire park has re-opened following a £3.2 million refurbishment.
Residents and councillors attended the official opening of Castle Park in Frodsham. Visitors can now wander around formal gardens or take a woodland walk, seize a quiet moment in the restored conservatory or explore the restored Synagogue Well and American Garden.
Children can also explore a new play area complete with sand, boulders and a hammock swing, test the zip wire or try out the snake swing.
Chester Cllr Richard Short, Cheshire West and Chester Council (CWaC) executive member for culture and recreation, who officially opened the park, said: “The event not only showcased the range of new facilities available at the site but provided a great opportunity for the authority to thank its many partners in the project. We are delighted the park has been renovated to such a high standard and I hope Frodsham residents enjoy the beautiful site for many years to come.”
The park is now a perfect venue for community events, with a purpose-built area and new sports facilities including three tennis courts, a multi-use games area, a bowling green and state-of-the-art athletics track.
A partnership between CWaC, Castle Park Charitable Trust, the Heritage Lottery Fund and Big Lottery Parks for People, the works also include improvements to pathways and watercourses throughout the park, a new pavilion with café, a new natural play area, woodland management and landscaping of the old play area.
Chairman of Castle Park Trust, Frodsham and Helsby Cllr Les Ford, said: “We are looking for local residents to take centre stage in the future of the park by joining the Friends of Castle Park community group, taking part in upcoming events and helping us to gain Green Flag status.”
