A CHESTER fundraiser has issued a rallying cry for people across the region to join the fight for women’s survival with the launch of a new campaign.
David Reeves, Cancer Research UK’s area volunteer manager for Chester and his fundraising colleagues, raised the flag on the campaign while wearing pink camouflage outfits, teamed with the charity’s unique pink and blue ‘camouflage’ ribbons.
The ‘camo’ ribbon symbolises Cancer Research UK’s campaign and the role the charity’s scientists play on the front line in the battle against breast cancer - a disease which affects more than 45,500 women each year in the UK, including around 5,290 in the North West.
Cancer Research UK is the largest single funder of breast cancer research in the UK, spending more than £44 million on groundbreaking work last year.
David said: “We are shaping up to recruit mums, dads, families, friends and work colleagues throughout Cheshire to help raise money. We want them to step forward and be counted as they ‘join the fight for women’s survival’.
“The message to everyone is clear: Cancer Research UK needs you! Supporters can request a fundraising pack crammed full of tips for organising an event to raise money for life saving research.”
In the last few years, more women have been diagnosed with breast cancer than ever before, however due to research into earlier diagnosis and better treatment, more women are also surviving.
David Reeves added: “We need everyone in Chester to get involved. Our research is beating breast cancer but we still need people to help us fight harder. Every penny raised will help save more lives in the future.”
An army of celebrities has already backed the campaign including Hollywood stars Nicole Kidman and Naomie Harris, designer Tracey Boyd, actresses Honor Blackman, Fay Ripley and Roxanne Pallett, as well as singers Sonique and Anne Nolan.
While organising their own fundraising events, new recruits can kit themselves out with the charity’s pink and blue ‘camo’ ribbon, available in the form of an enamel pin badge from Cancer Research UK shops. Limited edition ducks, designed by Hollywood star Minnie Driver and EastEnders star Barbara Windsor, are also available.
