FRIGHTENED residents have claimed that a group of teenagers may be behind a spate of incidents against cats.

Within the last few months several cats have been either abused, killed or have disappeared from a number of residential areas in Ruthin.

According to one resident cats, from the Llys Famau estate, Denbigh Road and Maes Hafod, have been kicked, stabbed, burned, and had boiling water thrown over them.

"There have been rumours that a group of teenagers attacking the animals but to date I do not have names," said the resident, who did not wish to be named.

"My cat was found dead in a lane in Llys Famau she had received a blow to her stomach, and she had little stab wounds, her tail was a mess like she had been pulled or swung by it."

Other residents said their cats have gone missing without a trace, including a pregnant cat who 'always came home at night'.

"There could be countless others that we don't know about, I just want people to be aware and to protect their pets and maybe prevent this from happening to someone else," added the resident.

"If anyone does have any information I would like them to contact the RSPCA and the police."

An RSPCA spokesman said: "The RSPCA exists to prevent cruelty against animals and we rely on the public to inform us about specific concerns and complaints.

"If anyone knows anything regarding these cats we would urge them to call the RSPCA on 03001234999.”

A spokesman for North Wales Police said: "Anyone with any information is asked to report it by contacting 101".
