FORMER cricketer Kevin Glyn Jones proved his versatility by lifting Ruthin-Pwllglas Golf Club’s club championship, the Bartlett-Bregg Trophy.
The three-handicap former Ruthin Cricket Club stalwart fired rounds of 70 and 71 for a 36-hole aggregate of 141 to hold off the charge of Dylan Jones whose second round of 69 brought him to within two strokes of the leader at 143 after an opening 74.
Andy Wasik was the closest challenger after the morning round with a 72 while best gross in the afternoon went to Gari Jones with a 71.
Best nett in the morning was by Kevin Roberts, 73-12=61, with Tim Gorin taking the afternoon prize with 72-7=65.
The club’s 36-hole handicap championship, the Tudor House Trophy, was won by vice-captain Gordon Roberts.
The 15-handcapper shot nett rounds of 66 and 63 for a 129 total, one shot clear of a chasing pack led by Dylan Evans, 61+69=130, Kevin Glyn Jones, 68+63=131, and the captain, Geoff Gill, 66+68=134, who filled the top three spots in the 0-12 handicap category.
The 13-24 handicappers were led by Eric Owen, 67+68=135, from Gareth Pierce, 66+69=135, and Doug Amison, 68+68=136.
Nigel Roberts took the best nett on Saturday with a 63 with Peter Hodson best on Sunday, also with a 63.
