LLANFAIRPWLL 4
DENBIGH TOWN 2
TWO Llanfairpwll goals early in the second half sent John James’ Denbigh Town spinning to their second Welsh Alliance loss in the space of five days.
Hot on the heels of their five-goal loss versus Bethesda, Denbigh’s losing streak continued after a close tussle on Anglesey.
Denbigh were the better side in the first half, but after a promising start, they fell behind to a disappointing goal from a short corner.
Before that goal, Llanfairpwll hit the woodwork with a long-range strike, but for the remainder of the half it was Denbigh creating the opportunities.
They were soon level as Craig Wilkinson played in a great ball for Jon Slater to score and make it one-apiece.
That was a deserved goal for the Central Park mob, who went on a search for other goals as the half wore on.
Tom Sharples was played in an advanced role in midfield and on a few occasions he had opportunities from crosses, while further efforts for Denbigh came courtesy of Jon Slater and centre back Llion Roberts.
Denbigh were in optimistic mood as the second half started, but a dangerous and nippy Llanfairpwll frontman swung the match in the home side’s favour with a quick brace of goals in the space of 10 minutes.
The visitors’ hopes were hit further when they were reduced to 10 men after the dismissal of experienced defender Roger Beech for dissent.
Despite this setback, there was still life left in Denbigh and the impressive Jamie Davies played his part as his side threatened a comeback.
Promoted from the reserves, Davies definitely caught the eye and he set up Craig Wilkinson to lob the ball home.
Now 3-2 and all to play for, but that was as good as it got for the visitors as Llanfairpwll scored again to seal the deal.
