KYLE WILSON today expressed his hopes of helping the Blues fulfil their dreams of winning silverware.

The 24-year-old striker, who started his career as a youth team player at Crewe Alexandra, has set his sights on success with Chester this term.

Wilson is expected to be included in tonight’s squad for the Blues home tie against Congleton Town in the second round of the Cheshire FA Senior Cup at the Exacta Stadium (7.45pm kick-off).

He said: “Our first priority this season is ensuring that we win the league title, but we would also like to win as many cups as we can because the season is all about winning trophies.

“I was worried about dropping down a level when I spoke to the gaffer in the summer, but he knows all about football at this level and after working with him I know he’s very professional in making sure that everything is done right.

“Settling in at Chester hasn’t been difficult at all. I was struggling for my first few games because of my fitness after coming back from injury.

“But I’ve got my fitness back now and the lads have been brilliant, and I’m now starting to get a bit more confidence into my game.

“Everyone gets on with one another really well and there’s always a lot of banter flying around in the dressing room.”

Wilson top-scored with 24 goals in 32 games while at FC United of Manchester in the Unibond Premier League, and he has scored three goals so far during his time at Chester.

He revealed he was delighted to see his former FC United team-mates pull off a 3-2 FA Cup first round giantkilling act at Rochdale last week.

“I played for FC United the season before and it was brilliant to see them beat Rochdale in the FA Cup the other night,” he said.

“I’ve kept in touch with a few of the lads from FC United and I’ve received a few messages from them since their win.

“I was watching FC United and thinking that Chester could have also achieved a good run in the FA Cup if they had been in the competition.

“A good run in the FA Cup is something that I think Chester need as a club.”

Wilson, whose other clubs include Altrincham, Barrow, Droylsden, Macclesfield Town, and Hyde, underlined the importance of Chester rotating their squad of players.

He said: “Our cup appearances so far this season have helped all the players stay involved and also helped keep us all fit.

“Players who aren’t playing at the weekend are getting a run out in midweek and it gives those lads who aren’t normally involved with a chance to show what they can do. It also keeps everyone on their toes.

“All the lads are really high on confidence at the moment with us going on such a good unbeaten run.

“Going to the top of the league table and hearing our nearest rivals, Chorley, lost 2-1 at home to Harrogate Railway has given everybody at the club a big boost.

“It’s been great to play in the front line at Chester because Michael Wilde and I are receiving plenty of service.

“I’ve already asked Michael whether he can lay me up for a few chances because he seems to be getting more shots on goal than me.

“But it’s brilliant to play alongside Michael with him playing so well at the moment.

He’s a quality player and I like the way he plays because it suits my game. I can play off him.

“But whoever plays up front for Chester will receive plenty of chances.”
