Style Icons Through the Decades

Style is a funny thing. It’s not a trend, after all. Trends come and go but style remains. That was at the heart of classics like the little black number. Not that we’re suggesting that Dior’s little black dress would have held its own in Elizabethan court, but the idea of something so simple that it just works, day in, day out, is something that’s at the heart of style.

Style can suit any occasion, any mood. It’s got an appeal that makes it universal. So what is at the heart of style?

There’s a case for saying that to discover something that’s really stylish you need to look behind the trends, and understand the core of what is going on. But if style really is about looking at what lies behind, then surely it’s about understanding what we’re trying to achieve.

This might seem like a funny intro to an article about bingo but stick with us.

You see, being stylish is about being brave enough to break out on your own, and go for something unique. But how can you recognise the best features to chase? Well, that, surely, lies in asking what it is you’re trying to achieve.

Bingo, believe it or not, is fast becoming one of the nation’s favourite pastimes. But that doesn’t mean it’s time to break out the blue rinse and head down the local bingo hall, because that’s not where you’ll find the nation’s number one players.

These days bingo takes place online, with jackpots that can reach a hundred thousand and over, while playing with like minded people.

So what lies behind this desire? Is it possible that bingo could be becoming, not just a trend, but stylish?

We thought that the only way to work out if this was true was to look at what lies behind bingo and then decide whether those drives were universal enough to declare it genuinely stylish.

What’s at the core of bingo? Unsurprisingly for something that’s a form of gambling, the appeal is excitement, as anyone who’s ever played the game could tell you.

You get a card and mark off numbers, if you’re the first to complete a line you win a cash prize; the first to complete two lines wins the same and the first to complete their card wins the jackpot. Because the prizes can be genuinely decent, it’s not surprising that people are finding it a thrill.

Also, most online bingo places now offer what are called progressive jackpots, which is where the real money lies. A progressive jackpot is one that gets bigger until someone wins it. Basically, a portion of every ticket everyone buys in the room goes towards it, and if you complete your card within a set number of calls you’ll land the lot.

It’s easy to think that this means no-one ever wins the jackpot – that’s a cynics way to look at it – but it must be won so you do the maths…

So, we’ve got a game that’s exciting. There’s a genuine chance of winning thousands or even hundreds of thousands of pounds on the back of a ticket that cost 10p or 50p. That seems to have the wow factor that lies behind something genuinely stylish – something so innate that it’s brilliant.

But alongside being prepared to break out on your own, and be the first to hit the online bingo sites, bingo offers a lot of reassurance because thousands of people are doing it already, so even if you’re the first of your friends to play the game you won’t be the first out there actually playing the game.

The other thing to bear in mind about bingo, and this is one for you ladies out there, is a simple comparison between it and something equally stylish.

We’ve all seen Daniel Craig, in his tuxedo, sitting around the card table in Casino Royale. He’s about as cool as it gets. Sipping his martini and staring cold heartedly at those around him. It’s very masculine, but very cool!

So what’s the ladies’ equivalent? There’s a lot of girls getting involved in poker now, and good luck to them, but isn’t that just a bit like wearing the trousers, if you know what I mean. Truth is, bingo offers all the same excitement as poker, while being fantastically female!

It’s social and open and you can make friends and experience the whole thing together. Because, playing bingo, you really do experience the fun together. It’s not about being alone, it can be rebellious if you’re the first of your friends to try it, but that many people can’t be all wrong!

So there it is: a genuinely exciting game that you play with your friends. It’s ticks all the right boxes for a great night in, and that’s something that’s got the longevity to become genuinely stylish!

So there it, the proof’s in the pudding: Bingo is a genuinely stylish night in!

And if you’re looking for a place to start, the current market leaders are Jackpotjoy, who offer a range of bingo games which include some games unique to the site. So make sure you hop on over and give it a go!

Enjoy the games…
