MORE than 20,000 people turned out to see top boy band The Wanted switch on the lights of Britain’s biggest Christmas tree at Cheshire Oaks Designer Outlet.

The boys were the headline act at the retail park’s Christmas launch event on Friday, where they performed some of their most popular songs from their debut album and officially starting the centre’s countdown to Christmas.

Eliza Doolittle, X-Factor’s Diva Fever and Belle Amie, new girl band Wonderland and Same Difference also performed at the launch of Britain’s biggest Christmas tree, which stands 90 feet tall and is decorated with 100,000 lights and 80,000 baubles.

The event attracted more than 5,000 more people than last year’s Christmas launch, which saw a headline performance from The Saturdays.

Shaun Rhodes, marketing manager at Cheshire Oaks Designer Outlet, said: “The lighting of the tree has always been a hugely popular family event for the outlet, but we’re delighted that we were able to attract a bigger crowd than ever before to this year’s Christmas launch.

“We always felt that this year’s line up was particularly strong and the massive turnout on Friday served to confirm this. The Wanted in particular went down an absolute storm with the crowd.
