DRIVERS are once again being warned to take extra care on Cheshire roads ahead of another cold spell due in next week.

Ice and rain continue to make many roads across the region hazardous, with especially dangerous conditions being reported on the A34 at Congleton, A556 at Tabley, and on the M62 at Croft.

Several collisions have already been reported and Cheshire Police and other emergency services are working round-the-clock to aid motorists in need of assistance.

Although temperatures are expected to briefly "warm up" this weekend, with the Met Office predicting a high of 8C in Chester on Saturday, dropping temperatures will hit the region by the end of next week.

People are being warned to only make journeys that are "absolutely necessary" while ensuring their cars are fully defrosted with full visibility. Police are also urging motorists to maintain a safe and constant speed and avoid sudden braking that can cause cars to skid.
