A CONTROVERSIAL doctor from Knighton has been allowed to practise again after being suspended last year.

Dr Sarah Myhill, who specialises in ME treatment, had been suspended from the medical register in October by the General Medical Council following complaints about the content of her website and her management of a patient.

In a turn of events a GMC Interim Orders Panel hearing has restored her name to the register, although there are still restrictions in place.

Dr Myhill told the County Times that she was “delighted and relieved”, and that she believes that the GMC “never had a case”. However, despite the decision, Sarah says that she is still taking her case against the GMC to the High Court.

“They continue to restrict my freedom of opinion,” she added. “Being a private doctor I have opinions on how certain things should be treated. Under the Human Rights Act it is illegal for the GMC to restrict me on what I can do and think.”

At the hearing last week the panel’s determination said: “Imposing conditions on your registration, at this time, is a necessary and proportionate response to the risks posed by you practicing medicine unrestricted.”

The restrictions include continuing to restrict Dr Myhill’s website from publishing content on the medical management of cases relating to cardiology, or cardiovascular disease; the treatment of asthma; the treatment, testing, identification, diagnosis or management of breast cancer; the use of hormonal contraceptive medication; the pharmacological management of primary or secondary prevention of vascular disease; or any immunisation or vaccination.

The doctor, who has a private surgery in Llangunllo, has also said that she has “suffered losses” from the case, and that when the GMC are found liable she will sue which is “something which has not been seen in the GMC before.”

The IOP added that the order will be reviewed within three months, or earlier if necessary.
