POLICE have released images in the hunt for a number of football fans they wish to speak to in connection with trouble at a match between Chester and Chorley.

After the game on February 19, five people were arrested, a 72-year-old man from Chester was struck on the head by a brick and a police horse was allegedly headbutted.

Police have now released images of 13 men they wish to speak to after officers reviewed hours of CCTV footage taken from council cameras.

The pictures have also been sourced from video shot by police on the ground and from the Lancashire Constabulary helicopter.

Police said all of the men were suspected of serious public order offences.

Supt Richard Robertshaw said: “Fans from both teams were involved and a significant police operation has been ongoing since the match to find those responsible for the mindless violence.

“The behaviour of a small minority of individuals both during and after the match was appalling.

“Others have already been identified and I anticipate arrests in the next few days.”
The game, which Chester won 1-0, was marred by violent clashes between rival fans at several locations in the town after the match.

The suspects are thought to be both Chorley and Chester fans.

A crowd of 3,223, the biggest at Chorley since the 1980s, had gathered for the Evo-Stik league first division game at Victory Park.

Three men were later charged with public order offences with one of them facing animal cruelty charges for the horse allegation.

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0845 1253545.
