FOOTBALL fans are being assured they have nothing to fear when Chester FC heads off rivals Chorley tonight.
The match will be the first time the two teams have played each other since widespread trouble erupted at Victory Park in February.
After the game, fighting broke out between the two sides on a terraced grass bank where a temporary fence was guarded by stewards and police reinforcements.
A number of people were arrested following the match after a 72-year-old man from
Chester was struck on the head by a brick and a police horse was allegedly headbutted. There were also a number of other injuries.
But Jeff Banks of Chester Fans United said tonight there would be "no repeat" of the trouble and everyone was "just looking forward to the game".
He said: "We always work with safety officers. We have an advisory group that meet every month and discuss these issues. There might be a slight extra police presence, but everyone is just looking forward to the game."
He added: "Chorley will have about 200 supporters present, they will be easily accomodated in one of the stands. There is an enclosure which is separated, one end of the stand belongs to Chester and the other to Chorley.
"However, we have a brilliant track record here in Chester. The violence occurs at away games, not home games. We just need to look forward and not dwell on the past."
The game takes place at 7.45pm at Exacta Stadium, Bumpers Lane.
