STEPS are being taken to avoid a repeat of the violence that marred a football fixture last year.
Chester FC have announced their match against Chorley on Saturday, February 4, will kick off at the earlier time of 1pm on police advice.
The Evo-Stik Premier match is due to be played 12 months after Chester last visited Chorley, for a match heavily overshadowed by a series of incidents.
Both clubs won promotion from the Evo-Stik Division One North at the end of the season, meaning Chester would be returning too Victory Park and that talks would be held to limit the threat of further trouble.
In a statement on their official website, a Chester FC spokesman confirmed the decision regarding the kick off time has been made on police advice.
“Both clubs and the police have been in constant discussion and all are in agreement over the kick off time,” said the spokesman.
A number of arrests were made following last year’s match at Victory Park, which saw trouble inside and outside the ground and a pensioner from Chester being hit on the head by a missile.
No further security measures for the fixture have so far been announced, with Chester due to release ticket details shortly.
Should Chester win their FA Trophy match at Ebbsfleet United on Saturday the match against Chorley will be moved to another date.
