Shotton ABC stars Tom Doran and Paul Davies continued their boxing education with victories at the recent ProAm event at Deeside.
Doran continued his unbeaten start to life as a professional with a triumph over Darren Gethin, winning each of his six rounds, while Davies saw off Delroy Spencer in equally emphatic style.
The double victory ensures that the pair maintained their perfect records with neither losing a single round since turning professional.
Shane Thomas, who trains Doran and Davies, is delighted with their progress and said: “I have high hopes for both of them.
“I am looking for a fight for them both in January or February and I believe that Tom is ready for a shot at the Welsh Title – he is one of the best novices around.
“Paul and Tom really took their opponents to school and it is great to see local fighters doing so well, it was a great night with between 700 and 800 people.”
In the amateur fights Ian Aldridge defeated fellow Shotton boxer Gareth Millington on points, while Cameron Halfpenny won his bout with a fighter from Bury.
“All three are doing really well,” explained Thomas. “They are all training really hard and their dedication is excellent, Cameron is training with the professionals and it is showing.”
Female boxing is also taking off at Shotton with Calli Johnson making it two wins from two bouts.
Having beaten a girl from Warrington Johnson stopped a south Walian, who had won all three of her fights, in the second round.
Meanwhile, Danny Roth and Luke Cavanagh starred for host club Llay ABC in their latest show at Llay Royal British Legion.
Roth produced a fantastic comeback win with a unanimous points verdict against T King (Dyffryn) following an 18 month lay-off after illustrating an aggressive and positive approach to his senior bout.
And Cavanagh boxed exceptionally well to secure a unanimous points victory in his first-ever bout against T Ballam (Denbigh).
Wrexham’s Tony Roberts delivered a majority points decision after a hard fought contest against Preston-based K Farnworth who represented the Larchers and Savick Club.
Deva ABC’s Ashley Appleby maintained his unbeaten record with a 10th straight victory against D Bains of Welshpool.
Michael Jones, of Llay ABC, lost his bout in a majority decision against S Whitforth (Larchers and Savick), while Caernarfon’s S Parry scored a majority points win against L Kennedy (Clwyd ABC).
Chester youngsters C Foster and Josh Middlehurst secured schoolboy bout successes.
Foster defeated R Pritchard (Larchers and Savick) in a majority points decision, and Middlehurst beat Llay’s Ryan Thornhill on a unanimous points win.
Sion Roberts (Caernarfon) defeated Daniel Davies (Llay) in a unanimous points win.
A Llay ABC spokesman said: “Thanks to all competing clubs and officials, and they convey a special thanks to Dave ‘Butch’ Jones of Maelor, and Mark Shepherd of Deva ABC, for all their work in making the show such a success.”
