STRUGGLING Chester City FC have appointed controversial ex-Kettering and Halesowen manager Morell Maison as their director of football.

Maison was banned from football for three months after a post-match disagreement with striker Dean Brennan while at Halesowen.

And Maison, who is still serving a touchline ban until the end of the season, has confirmed his arrival at the crisis-hit Blues is not part of a takeover at the moment.

He said: “My arrival at Chester is not a takeover at this moment in time. I am taking over as director of football.

“I have got a list as long as my arm of all the issues and problems, and of all the things that need looking at and, essentially it’s now up to me to bring all of my experience in trying to position these things and trying to find a way forward for the football club.

“Jim Harvey is the manager and that will remain the case for as long as Jim wants it to be that way.

“I will certainly not be investing in the club. That is not a position for me. I’ve already had a bitter experience of getting involved in that manner and I’m no longer part of that situation at Halesowen. Friends of mine have taken over there now and they are looking at driving the football club forward.

“My brief at Chester is to try and help the footballing issues and help develop the club from the footballing angle.

“There are other recommendations that I will be making concerning investment, and I have put proposals to certain individuals within the football club that will possibly help the directors of the club extricate themselves from the club or move the club forward.

“There is a timescale for the existing directors to extricate themselves, but that depends on how things move forward.

“I’m new to this situation and I’m obviously getting to grips with all the issues and I’ve been working on this for the last week or so, and there is still another couple of weeks for me to pan out the whole situation.

“I’m aware that everybody connected with Chester, including the supporters have been eating, sleeping, and drinking the club’s situation, but I’ve now got to work out all the different scenarios that are being painted to me at the moment and find a solution for the football club.

“There is a contract on the table, but it has yet to be signed."

Meanwhile, Blues boss Jim Harvey, who has been linked with the managerial vacancy at Kidderminster Harriers, admitted he had not known about the club’s appointment of Morell Maison as director of football until 30 minutes before Chester’s 2-0 defeat at Kidderminster on Boxing Day.
