CHESTER is set to come to a standstill this afternoon as England take on Slovenia in a must-win game.

The Leader hit the streets to ask do the people of Chester believe England have what it takes to stay in the World Cup after two draws against the USA and Algeria?

Residents and visitors across the city centre are hopeful that the boys will get the job done and avoid an early exit from the biggest tournament in the world.

Dave Huxley, 42, of Middlewich, said: “I think they will probably win this one because of the siege mentality of the English. It is our one last chance to get it sorted and we will succeed.”

Jade Murray, 21, from Chester, said: “I’d like to think they will win. I have not really been watching the games. I have heard they have not been doing well but I am hopeful.”

Sophie Morris, 17, from Handbridge, said: “Ever since they failed in the first game I have been supporting any other team. I simply don’t think there is a chance for England to win.”

Andy Leggett, 45, from Liverpool, said: “I think they’ll make it their own because they can’t be as bad as they’ve been. I think they will just pull it together at the last minute. I also think this because the team they are playing are bad.”

Nick Billington, 37, of Upton, said: “It is hard to tell. I think I am a bit on the pessimistic side. I think they will just manage to win this one. But I think they’ll only finish in second place in their group.”

Matt Watson, 25, from West Kirby, said: “I think people are fickle and they have lost interest. I avoided the games this year.”

Matthew Davis, 36, of Manchester, said: “I think they will win but not by much.
“I don’t think people will be satisfied with the results. Everyone will say they have still not won by enough.”
