A WELL known country singer has celebrated his Cestrian roots by recording a CD dedicated to his beloved Chester City FC.
Freeman of Chester Mick Edwards, known largely for his singing talents and days spent crooning on Llandudno Pier, has recorded a collection of old country favourites and aptly re-dedicated the CD to the Chester team he idolised as a boy.
As well as proving a memorable and enjoyable trip down memory lane, Mick also hopes the CD will sell in support of the recently formed Chester FC club which is now back on the road to recovery.
Mick, 61, formerly of Curzon Park, Chester, but now of Prestatyn, said: “My father Albert was a staunch Chester City FC fan and I used to go along with him to watch the games.
“Dad lived and breathed Chester City FC. Obviously I have kept in touch with the club over the years, including through its sad demise, but now fortunately the club is up and running again and the future looks bright.
“This CD is my way of sending a little happiness and cheer about the club to listeners and helping to support the club. I wish Chester FC a very bright future.”
The CD, which marks the 20th anniversary of the club leaving Sealand Road for its new premises on Bumpers Lane, contains revised tracks of old classics including “My Chester”, “Sealand Road”, “Macclesfield Home” and “Just Thirteen” - alluding to the time Mick spent pitchside in support of the Blues in his younger days.
Mick, who is married to wife Margaret, left Chester 30 years ago but says the city will ‘always be close to his heart’.
The CD, which took two months to complete, has proved one of the most enjoyable projects in recent years for the Irish singer who has had a number one in the Irish charts.
