CHESTER students have been reaping the benefits of working with professional coaches.
Pupils from The King’s School, in Wrexham Road, have been training weekly with coaches from Everton Football Club at their Community and Development Centre.
Everton FC managers invite clubs from across the area to sessions so they can identify young players who would benefit from specialised training. King’s students are given the opportunity to run the sessions. More than 10 King’s students contribute to the scheme, several of whom are also preparing for the FA’s Junior Football Organiser’s course.
Everton community director, Ray Redmond, praised the contribution. He said: “The King’s students have been as good a group as I have worked with on such a project, they are keen, able and a credit to themselves and the school.”
Director of sport at King’s, Richard Lunn, said: “We have been working with Everton for the past year and their very professional set-up has allowed King’s to assist in the development of local football and help our students gain confidence and knowledge through developing their leadership skills.”
